Page history last edited by St. Anthony School 11 years, 4 months ago

Welcome to Music!  You can find us in Margot Hall, the Chapel, the Church--singing, moving, playing; learning history, critically thinking; going around the world!  You never know what we might be studying next...

Here are some fun, online resources:

SFSKIDS

San Francisco Symphony For Kids

New York Philharmonic Kidzone

  Write Your Own Music!

Current curriculum:

PreK/Kindergarten:  becoming more "tune-ful, beat-ful, and art-ful" kids with echo songs, fingerplays, beat motion activities, instrument playing, and more!

1st-3rd:  learning basic music literacy through games, songs, movement activities, instrument playing, and creative expression.

4th-5th:  preparing to apply our music literacy by playing recorder; currently reviewing our treble clef music reading via visual, audio, and kinesthetic modes.

6th:  Unit Study!  Folk Music around the World starts in Africa.  Listening journals include music from Ghanaian Postal Workers, wonderful drum ensembles, and more.  Activities have us layering rhythms in multiple meters!

7th:  Unit Study!  History of American Pop Music starts with Stephen Foster, Blues, Ragtime, and Tin Pan Alley.  We listen to "Beautiful Dreamer," Bessie Smith, Scott Joplin, and more.

8th:  Unit Study!  Music History begins with the earliest written music--Gregorian Chant--and will continue through Medieval times before we move into the Renaissance.  This is a great way for us to culminate the knowledge we've gained through multiple years of music-making!
